Yallavva Hulagappa madar availed Ration Card through RTI and also emerged as Leader: Yallavva Hulagappa Madar, aged 39, belonging to Scheduled Caste, residing at Inambudihal Post :Hiremagi, Taluka Hungund of Bagalkot District. Yallavva having three kids two male and one female. Yallavva was also one the local SHG member formed by REACH.

Yallavva Hulagappa Madar depending upon Coolie and having BPL (Tatkal Card) ration card. However, she was not getting ration since last 3 months from the Fair Price Shop of Inambudihal. When she asked the reason for denying ration, Yallvva was told that the card was cancelled by Government. Yallavva have been approaching the shop keeper and requesting for ration. But, she was unable to get and every returned with empty bag. The neibhourers also worried about Yallavva and helped her with some rations.

One day Yallavva was very nervous and worried for her livelihood as her four member family was depending on BPL Card. The neibhourers consoled her and urged to come to SHG meeting to discuss the issue. Members motivated Yellavva to speak in SHG meeting, Yallavva shared her case of denying ration. Her neighbourers also joined her and resolved to approach Tahasildar for justice. REACH karyakartas present in the meeting also suggested to approach Tahasildar. Accordingly, Yallavva with two SHG member, approached Tahasildar of Hungund taluka and explained the difficulties by cancelling Antyodya card.

SHG members asked tahasildar why the ration card was cancelled. Tahasildar positively heard and informed to meet Officials of Food and Civil Supplies to check whether card is really cancelled.

SHG members thanked Tahasildar and went to nearby Office of Food and Civil Supplies along with karykatas of REACH and explained the discussion they had with Tahasildar. Fortunately, Yallavva’s Card was not cancelled. The Officials immediately phoned Shop Keeper of Inam budihal and taken him to task and warned to distribute the ration from today itself .Yallavva thanked Tahasildar and also SHG which helped her to approach Tahasildar and Officials of Food and Civil Supplies.

Yallavva Huligappa Madar, now have been receiving ration regularly. She is very proud of SHG Through RTI, which opened up the door. Higher Officials are very polite and prompt rather local Government Servants, Yallavva Hullagappa Madar opines. Yallava narrates her story in SHG meetings and motivates women .Yallavva is now more confident and encourages women to unite through SHG to resolve all the local issues. The incident evolved leadership in Yallavva and local SHG.
